It’s almost June (can you believe it?!) and I feel like my face needs a mid-year change.
No, I won’t be getting botox (I’m not THAT old yet), but I’ll be making the following adjustments to my beauty regime:
1. Wearing less foundation
I am lucky enough to have decent skin and only suffer from the occasional hormonal breakout, however, I tend to wear more foundation than I should. After interviewing MAC’s make-up guru Michelle-Lee Collins for an article, I was inspired to let my skin breathe. In her opinion, true beauty is all about enhancing one’s natural complexion rather than piling on foundation, and I couldn’t agree more. Now that winter is upon us I’ll be using a BB cream for lighter coverage. My current favourite is Stila Stay All Day 10-in-1 Illuminating Beauty Balm SPF30 for a ‘my skin but better’ look.
2. Experimenting more
I have a pretty standard everyday look which I am usually able to do in the car on the way to work (naughty naughty). I would love to be bolder with my make-up choices by experimenting with current beauty trends. I am definitely keen to try a metallic smoky eye for a night out and berry-stained lips for a glam day event. I usually shy away from red shades on my lips due to my English-rose complexion, but it turns out that they don’t look as garish as I thought. Plus, these make-up looks go beautifully with barely-there skin.
3. Keeping it simple
I’m often testing out a variety of skincare products from different brands at the same time. Some of these products aren’t necessarily for my skin type (I have combination skin) and this can lead to unwelcome visitors. It’s time to narrow down my complicated skincare routine and stick to the essentials: cleanser, toner, serum, moisturiser, eye cream and SPF. I tend to only exfoliate when I remember and hardly ever apply a mask, but these important skin-savers need to become weekly habits again.
