I’ve had a pretty slow start to the new year, but as they say better late than never, so here’s my roundup of the beauty goodies that had me oohing and aahing last year:
Urban Decay Naked Palette 3
The hype surrounding the UD palettes is well deserved and if you are heading overseas this year, I highly recommend picking up one of these. The palette contains 12 dreamy, highly-pigmented eyeshadow shades that have me snapping open the lid and staring at their beauty for hours (I’m not even exaggerating!)
They are buttery-soft and glide onto the eyelids evenly and smoothly. My favourite shades are Nooner (a matte rosy taupe), Trick (a glittery gold) and Liar (a shimmery taupe). Plus, the palette comes with a really nice double-ended eyeshadow brush that makes blending child’s play.
MAC Soft & Gentle Mineralize Skin Finish
I use this daily as a delicate highlighter for my cheekbones, brow bone and down the centre of my nose. A little goes a long way as it is definitely shimmery, but not so much that you’ll end up looking like a disco ball.
I find that applying it with a small blush brush guarantees I don’t overdo it. This is a lovely pick for brightening up your complexion after a late night.
Bourjois Happy Light Foundation in Light Beige
Bourjois makes some of my all-time favourite foundations (including Healthy Mix) so I knew that this would be a winner. I am hoping that this foundation will launch soon in Clicks stores as they stock most of the Bourjois make-up already.
This foundation has a dewy finish with decent yet lightweight coverage, perfect for everyday wear. It does what it says on the bottle, leaving skin looking instantly perkier.
Clarins Instant Concealer in 01
Anna from Vivianna Does Makeup raves about this stuff, so naturally I rushed out to buy it. It quickly became my most-reached-for concealer thanks to a creamy, long-lasting formula that not only covers the most stubborn dark circles, but also any pesky blemishes lurking around.
I especially love this product for days when I can’t be bothered with a full face of makeup and will dab a bit where needed, apply blusher and go.
Nuxe Huile Prodigieuse OR
I picked up this bottle of multi-purpose dry oil in Dubai because being the magpie I am, I simply can’t resist anything gold and shiny. I had tested the original oil in Truworths and adored the scent, and figured that the shimmering version would be perfect for bronzed legs in summer. I was right and I always rub a few drops down my shins, on my arms and across my collarbones before a night on the town.
It won’t make you look tanned in a flash, but leaves behind a beautiful glow and a subtle yet sensual scent. You can also use this dry oil to add some gloss to your hair or illuminate your face.
I wish you all a happy new year filled with new and exciting beauty discoveries!
