It’s been a long time since my last post…
I was man down with flu for a while, but can happily say that I am fully recovered and have just returned from the majestic Drakensberg Mountains with my family after a well-deserved break.
A combination of the fresh air and blissful tranquility led to much contemplation about the beauty of nature and life in general. I could have stayed there for ages; simply sitting outside listening to the wind rustling through the long grass and the birds chirping merrily. I couldn’t help but wonder what it must be like to be a bird: imagine having an entire sky at your disposal and the freedom to fly whenever you want (not to mention the money you would save on airfare 😉 )
My dad has always been a huge bird watcher, so much so that my mom jokes that birds are his first love. I, on the other hand, am not a true nature girl – you’ll rarely find me on the beach or hiking up Lion’s Head. However, while standing beside my dad during one of our Drakensberg hikes and overlooking the beautiful landscape beneath us, I felt completely content.
And that’s when it hit me – I can choose to be as free as a bird. We recently celebrated Freedom Day and the freedom of choice is definitely one of life’s greatest gifts. Today I urge you to be whoever you want to be and do what you love. Chase your dreams, explore, love, laugh, change and grow.
